Go Virtual with Write2Ignite and Joyce M. Hostetter!

This year, let’s go virtual with Write2Ignite and Joyce M. Hostetter! If you’re unfamiliar with these two fabulous names, then allow me to share a little about them with you. Plus, there’s a special note from Jean Hall included.

The first year I attended a Write2Ignite Conference (W2I) was in 2012. It was the first conference I’d attended which specifically catered to Christian writers of children’s and young adult literature. God used that experience to open multiple doors of blessings.

One blessing was the privilege of taking a writing class taught by the award-winning author, Joyce Moyer Hostetter. Her presentation: “Telling the Truth Through Fiction” was engaging and the resources she gave were helpful.

Another blessing came through an opportunity to serve on the W2I leadership team the following year. Part of my responsibilities included interviewing workshop presenters, publishers, and editors, then sharing those interviews on the Write2Ignite website.

Obviously, interviewing Joyce Moyer Hostetter was one of the highlights.

After looking through my files, I found a copy of that 2012 interview. Her words are full of wisdom. For example, when asked how her faith affected her writing, Joyce answered,

Faith influences the topics I write about – tragedy and compassion, war and peace.  I incorporate faith as it emerges naturally from the story and try not to speak a foreign language to people who don’t share my faith.  I feel called to those readers [and] I don’t want to turn them off with a sermon that they’ve probably tuned out in real life – via, you know – Facebook, political conversations, etc.

Here on the blog, we search for ways to use the power of story, history, and His Story to tell the next generation wondrous things. Joyce does this beautifully in her historical fiction books.

We’re Back!

Recently, I answered the call to serve again on the leadership team for the Write2Ignite Writers Conference. I’m eager to become involved again because W2I is a conference with an amazing mission. Furthermore, it was a delight to learn Joyce is returning this year as well!

Normally, the Write2ignite Conference is held annually at North Greenville University. Also, they conduct various workshops throughout the year. Joyce was scheduled to present a Master Fiction Writing Class in September. However, COVID-19 has pushed that to a virtual (online) class.

Nonetheless, there are some perks to conducting a class online, but I’ll let my good friend, Jean Hall, tell you about those.

Also, I extend a big welcome to Jean as she steps back into the role of the W2I director. Previously, she had taken time off to write four children’s books which were picked up by Little Lamb Publishing–another W2I success story!

Here’s a note from Jean about Write2Ignite and Joyce M. Hostetter.
