TEENY SWEENEY AND THE MUSTACHE CASH: Christian Book Review (Giveaway)

This week I’m posting a review of the Christian children’s book, TEENY SWEENEY AND THE MUSTACHE CASH plus there’s a giveaway!

The best of intentions can twist into a sticky mess as quick as double-sided tape in a dog’s hair, especially if you’re Tweeny Sweeney, and you’re looking for some mustache cash!

Author, Amberly Kristen Clowe has written a humorous, Christian fiction book for ages six- to ten-years-old. Thirteen chapters are included in the 104 pages of this early reader chapter book.

Also, at the back of the book, there are book club questions, an unscrambling activity which enables readers to learn more about Teeny, and an activity where readers work through questions to develop their own business plan.

Teeny Sweeney

Third-grader, Tina “Teeny” Sweeney is eager to outshine her classmates when her teacher assigns students to create a sample business plan. Teeny thinks she has the best business plan ever. And, to prove it she sets up her mustache selling business. According to her older brother, a mustache is what every guy wants! Apparently, Teeny is business-savvy because she quickly makes six hundred dollars selling her homemade mustaches!

Illustrations

The illustrator, Janet Samuel, provides exceptional illustrations for each chapter. My favorite is the hilarious scene on the playground with a young boy sporting his new mustache. All the other boys are waving their money at Teeny, eager to get their own ‘stache.

Spiritual Truths

This book is very entertaining while imparting some spiritual truths. They’re not heavy-handed, but rather appear naturally throughout the story.

A few helpful scriptures come to Teeny’s mind as she’s working through her business plan. Yet, in her eagerness to be the best, she suppresses them.

Eventually, Teeny creates more problems, and enemies, than she ever imagined. She’s not sure if she’ll ever be able to make things right.

“With Teeny, young readers will learn that even when things don’t go your way, you can always trust in God’s plan. God’s love and mercy is for everyone…”      (excerpt from back cover of Teeny Sweeney)

Family Support

Another reason I like this book is because the author chose to include Teeny’s Mom, Dad, and older brother as her guiding support team in the book. Teeny must resolve the crisis herself, but she definitely receives wisdom and learns about unconditional love from her family.

I highly recommend this wholesome and enteraining book.
