THIS LIFE I LIVE by Rory Feek – Book Review & a Giveaway!

by Sally Matheny   “I wish I was doing something important with my life.” Have you ever said that? Longed for a life, or a love, that was exceptional? God has the power to press the extraordinary out of the ordinary. Rory Feek can attest to that. You’ll have to forgive me. I’m probably in the 1% of folks who had not heard of Joey and Rory Feek until I saw a clip on Facebook a while back promoting their movie, To Joey with Love. But that one small clip drew me in. I knew I wanted to learn more about this ordinary man, this ordinary woman, and their extraordinary love story.…

  • Book Review of MY NAME IS RIVER by Wendy Dunham & a Giveaway

by Sally Matheny   Today, I’m posting a book review of My Name is River, authored by Wendy Dunham, and we have a special giveaway! If fictional worlds merged, I bet twelve-year-old, River Starling, the main character in My Name is River would be best friends with Opal, the ten-year-old main character in Because of Winn Dixie. Both girls are similar in spunk and curiosity. However, author, Wendy Dunham, presents River with the “class dork” for a friend. Since River is running low on camaraderie, and she’s been assigned a class project with him anyway, River decides to give William a chance. Besides, her Gram always says, “If you judge…

Our trip to Virginia, in the summer of 2015, began on a sunny note, but quickly immersed under thick clouds and drizzling rain. The dreary weather lounged with us almost every day in the Shenandoah Valley. The morning of our departure, June 5, the dense fog finally rose just enough to scout over the trees. The rain ceased. Wanting to squeeze in one more activity before checking out, we raced to the chairlift located on the property. By the time we reached the summit, the weather changed. A thick, white fog veiled everything from sight. As we descended the mountain, I thought about how thick clouds caused problems on another…

    Memorial Day: Respect and Remember

/ Comments Off on Memorial Day: Respect and Remember

by Sally Matheny   Memorial Day is a time to respect and remember those who served and died for our country. They defended our right to worship freely and our right to speak publicly. They carried arms in hopes that we would not have to; but also, they protected our right to bear arms if so choose. Even though most of them did not know us, they helped to shield us from evil. They fought with all their might for liberty even though it cost them their own. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13 Our fallen heroes would want…
