THE SPIRIT IN YOU Book Review and Giveaway

Several children’s books talk about salvation. But few introduce the power of the Holy Spirit after the salvation experience. If you’re looking for a picture book that helps kids understand the path and purpose of salvation, then check out THE SPIRIT IN YOU.

The Author

Jordan  Raynor is a leading voice of the faith and work movement. He says “By God’s grace alone, I’ve helped more than 7,000,000 Christians in every country on earth connect the gospel to their work.”

He does this mostly through the books he writes and the keynote speeches he gives. A bestselling author, Raynor has written several books for adults and children, including The Creator in You, Redeeming Your Time,and The Royal in You.

He also serves as an elder at The Church at Odessa. He lives in Florida with his wife and three young daughters.

About THE SPIRIT IN YOU

Raynor uses engaging rhyme and biblical truth to help children better understand the path to salvation and its purpose.

The story begins with the question, “Have you ever done something you know you shouldn’t?” It explains how we all have fallen short of God’s perfect will and how the punishment for sin is eternal separation from God.

Then, the book shares the good news of the gospel in a simple way children can understand. The first half of the book highlights the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

The second half of the book introduces the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. It gives examples of how He works.

“And now you might think that our story is ending,

But in fact, this is just the beginning.

Because while your good works did nothing to save you,

They are what God’s Spirit gives you power to do.”

The story emphasizes that we are saved by God’s grace alone, but it also shows how the Spirit of God lives within us and works through us to bring kindness, compassion, beauty, hope, and joy into the world.

The Illustrations in THE SPIRIT IN YOU

Jonathan D. Voss does a beautiful job illustrating this story. When the book talks about sin, the pictures incorporate muted colors with lots of shading. Then, as salvation and the Holy Spirit are introduced, the colors brighten, and Voss expertly uses whites and sunlight. Many eye-catching details carry the story along.

One particular little boy is featured in the illustrations, but the book also portrays numerous children throughout.

Recommendation and Giveaway

THE SPIRIT IN YOU is a wonderful book for parents and grandparents to share with children. It will help them understand our need for the sacrificial love and saving grace of Jesus Christ, and how the Holy Spirit empowers us to live with purpose for God’s kingdom.

The book contains no printed scriptures, but its content is based on Scripture. I would have liked to have seen a few scriptures printed throughout the book or at the end.

Nonetheless, the author ends the book with a note to the parents where he offers a link to download a free, 3-day devotional to walk your kids through the scriptures THE SPIRIT IN YOU is based on. I like that!
