MISSION IMPOSSIBLE (Tebow): Book Review and Giveaway

Tim Tebow has compiled 365 devotions of “encouragement for living a life that counts.”

The Author

Tim Tebow is a two-time national champion, Heisman Trophy winner, first-round NFL draft pick, former professional baseball player, and a college football analyst with ESPN. He’s also the founder and leader of the Tim Tebow Foundation (TTF) and a New York Times bestselling author.

Growing up, Tim’s family attended a Southern Baptist church. Now, Tim frequently speaks to various congregations, but he primarily attends a nondenominational church with a biblically grounded statement of faith.

Tim, his wife Demi-Leigh, and their young daughter live in Jacksonville, Florida.

About the MISSION POSSIBLE Daily Devotional Book

This book contains 365 readings. Each one highlights a scripture followed by a short devotion. Most of the devotions are written by Tim Tebow with the assistance of A.J. Gregory. However, the book also features devotions written by others, usually those associated with the Tim Tebow Foundation.

After a warm introduction from Tim, the devotions begin. There isn’t a contents page or a concordance. Each page lists the month and day at the top. However, the devotion topics do not mention seasons or holidays–not even Christmas!

A wide range of topics is covered, including how weakness can actually be a strength, how to make wise choices, and how to give God your pain. The daily readings offer comfort, hope, and the guest authors “challenge through their perspective of what it means to live mission possible.”

Twice a month, Tim includes a written prayer accompanied by scripture references. He urges readers to look for the scriptures in their Bibles for further understanding. He also encourages readers to keep a journal to write their own prayers and to answer the question provided at the end of each devotional. There is also some blank space at the bottom of each page for readers who prefer to write there. The only lined page for writing is provided for the December 31 devotional, where readers are asked to list things they are thankful for.

The scriptures used are primarily from the New American Standard Bible (NASB).

An Example Devotion

One of Tim’s devotions is titled “It’s Not Too Hard for God.” The scripture given is Jeremiah 32:27, which says, “Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?”

Tim talks a bit about Jeremiah’s imprisonment and how God had a plan and a purpose.

He adds,

“I don’t know what you’re struggling with today. What prayer have you repeated for the past few months? I don’t know what your outcome will be, but I can tell you that God loves to perform the impossible. It’s part of who He is. It doesn’t mean He will always answer our prayers the way we want, but it means He is able to do what we think is too hard.”

The devotion ends with the question, “What do you need to surrender to God and allow Him to do instead?”

Recommendation & Giveaway

I recommend this uplifting book of Christian devotions for 6^th grade and up.

The people I can see especially enjoying these short devotions are reluctant readers, readers struggling with adversities, and adults who read to kids in hospitals or under medical care at home.

In fact, I think the adults will glean just as much encouragement as the kids!
