  • Visiting the Black Mountain Home for Children

    / 4 Comments

    Have you ever heard of the Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth & Families? Several years ago, my family attended a birthday party there. The place captured my heart and I’ve been wanting to go back to the BMH since. Recently, the opportunity arose for me and my teen son to tour this private, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Located in Black Mountain, North Carolina, the BMH is a gorgeous place filled with amazing opportunities. I’d love to share with you about what took place on our visit with the hope of you being able to visit someday.

    Recently, I’ve taken several free, online history classes about America and World War II. Thus far, the classes have been wonderful in content and presentation. I look forward to engaging in more of these educational opportunities. As I was researching for online classes, I discovered a good deal more. I thought many of you may appreciate my growing list of finds for free, American history resources! Due to space, I’ve had to trim this post to contain only . . .

    {College-Bound} Questions to Consider Before Joining a Club, Cause, or Caravan

    / 3 Comments

    Heading to college? So many opportunities for personal growth and friendships await you. These may occur by joining clubs, causes, and caravans. How exciting! And, perhaps a little intimidating. No worries. We’ve got a few questions for you to consider to guide you in your decision-making. All clubs, or organizations, have causes they support. Book clubs, national organizations, honor societies, and more. They all have goals—even the Couch Potato Club. However, there are certain causes or movements people back that may not be associated with a specific club or organization. Examples may be friends gathering supplies for the homeless or promoting July’s “National Picnic Month.” The meaning of the caravan…

    A Detective’s Guide to American History {Review of 2!}

    / 4 Comments

    Are you searching for fun ways to teach your children about key people and events in American history? Investigate this review of two resources--A Detective’s Guide to American History: 1800 to 1900 and A Detective’s Guide to American History: 1900 to 2000. Both guides are written for elementary students. The product desciption doesn't mention a specific age, but I'm thinking it is best suited for 3rd-5th graders. However, the content is adaptable. I learned several new things, and I'm well past fifth grade! These guides can easily be used to refresh the memories of older students. . .

    Are you looking for entertaining children's activities using picture book layers? I'm delighted to introduce you to a new friend, Kathy O'Neill, who has some wonderful ideas. I began following Kathy's blog about a year ago and found her content delightful. She's a talented artist who teaches and guides children and adults in discovering God and their own creativity through art, history, and nature. ***** Discover the Rich Layers of Picture Books by Kathy O' Neill Children love to read picture books over and over again.
