NIV Beautiful Word Coloring Bible: Review and Giveaway
If you’re looking for a Bible for a friend with an artistic flair, consider the NIV Beautiful Word Coloring Bible. Plus, we have a pretty pink Leathersoft™ copy to give away!
This review is not to debate this version of the Bible. You can discover more about the strengths and weaknesses of various Bible translations on this page at Christianbook.com.
Like my review of the NKJV Journal the Word Bible, this review focuses on the design of the Bible with a particular focus on the journaling and artistic aspects.

Translations may slightly vary, but God’s Word never changes.
The Publisher
Zondervan is one of the world’s leading Bible publishers. They’ve been in the publishing business for over eighty years. Pat and Bernard Zondervan published their first book, Women of the Old Testament, in 1931 out of their mother’s Michigan farmhouse. Ever since then, Zondervan has grown as a trusted source for Christian content. As the sole North American licensee for the New International Translation, Zondervan’s NIV Bible remains the bestselling English version of the Bible. HarperCollins Christian Publishing acquired Zondervan in 2012.
Also to note, Zondervan partners with Biblica. Every NIV Bible purchased helps Biblica translate and give Bibles to people in need around the world.
The NIV Beautiful Word Coloring Bible
The cover is a soft pink with white and purple flowers. After a presentation page to personalize, a table of contents is provided. At the back there is a Table of Weights and Measures followed by an index of the six artists who contributed the line drawings. There is no subject concordance.
The Artistic Elements
There are hundreds of scripture verses illustrated in black and white line drawings. People can choose to color these using various mediums. The best mediums to use are colored pens and pencils. The pages in this Bible are a little bit thicker than the pages in a regular Bible. You could also try using quick-drying acrylic paints with a light touch since they don’t bleed through pages easily. Test in a corner of a page first.
I think colored pens and pencils are the best, but you may also choose other items such as rubber stamps and washi tape.
Most of the illustrated verses are in the side margins. But occasionally, there are full one- and two-page illustrations to color.
The Journaling Elements
If there is no artwork provided in the margin, then there are lines for journaling in the outer margins of each page. These areas could be used for journaling your thoughts, prayers, or Biblical applications. Or the areas may be used to insert some of your own artwork.

The Benefits of Doodling
Did you know studies show that doodling can improve your recall ability, prevent mental fatigue, and enhance learning? Apparently, coloring and doodling helps us keep our brains engaged and remember things.
This Bible is a beautiful way to soak in God’s Word and help with scripture memory!
