Book Review: Remmy’s Sticky Situation (Sawyer)

Have you ever heard a child draw a wrong conclusion and erroneously blame a friend? That can be a sticky situation to resolve. Introduce children to Remmy’s Sticky Situation to discover ideas of how to make things right.

Let’s take a peek inside this picture book set to release May 2, 2025, by Designed2Glow Publishing.

The Author and the Illustrator

Cindy Sawyer

Sawyer is a talented children’s book author who blends adventure, STEM exploration, and social-emotional learning (SEL) into her books. Her first picture book, The Wonder of Under, became a #1 New Release in 2024. You can find my review of it here.

Sawyer also works as a marketing strategist, working for nonprofits and entrepreneurs. You can learn more about Sawyer on her website: www.designed2glow.com. This week she posted a story on her blog about what God taught her about forgiveness as she walked through one of her own painful experiences. I highly recommend you read “My Story, Remmy’s Lesson: The Healing Power of Forgiveness.”

Jasmine Wall

Wall does a beautiful job illustrating a curious, and sometimes cross little racoon. She uses bright colors and lots of details children will enjoy. A graphic designer in the gift industry, Wall has illustrated two picture books.

About Remmy’s Sticky Situation

When diving for his dumpster dinner, Remmy the raccoon finds a fluffy pink cloud of cotton candy at the fair. Just as he’s about to take a bite—poof!—it’s gone!

Who’s behind the mystery of the missing cotton candy?

Instead of investigating, Remmy quickly accuses his three friends, Freida Frog, Scotty Squirrel, and Rachael Robin. The friends tell Remmy they did not take his fluffy pink treat and each state the snacks they prefer instead of cotton candy. But Remmy is upset and says they are no friends of his.

Later, he discovers a surprising truth that makes him think twice before pointing fingers. Remmy and his friends learn about kindness, forgiveness, and second chances.

At the end of the book, there is a heartwarming note to readers from Remmy. Also included are fascinating, true facts about real racoons.

Recommendation

Young readers ages 3 – 8 will relate to Remmy on his silly and sweet adventure. Sawyer has a talent setting up age-appropriate “crime scenes” and ushering preschoolers into an investigation of “who-dun-it!” Along the way, they learn the value of friendship and the power of forgiveness.

This picture book is not classified as a religious children’s book but definitely addresses truths found in the Bible. No scriptures are stated in the book. Remmy will be a nice addition to all libraries—public and personal.

Also, based on the setting of the book, I think Remmy’s Sticky Situation would be a delightful supplement to children’s activity tents set up at street, community, and regional fairs.
