Book Review {& Giveaway}: Prayers for Each Moment
A new book, Prayers for Each Moment: 100 Conversations with God About Real Life and Real Stuff, launched this week.
There are moments in life when words fail us. We want to pray to God, but we are unsure of what to say. This book of real, honest, and relatable prayers will help.
The Author
I’ve reviewed several books written by Tama Fortner. Most have been books for children such as God, I Feel Sad and Easter is Coming! However, she creates inspirational books for children, teens, and adults.
Fortner a bestselling writer and ghostwriter of more than sixty titles, including the ECPA Christian Book Award Finalist Simply Christmas, along with winners Roar Like a Lion with Levi Lusko and How Great Is Our God with Louie Giglio.
In the introduction of Prayers for Each Moment, Fortner sets the tone with a warm invitation:
“One verse that is written on my heart and mind and that never ceases to fill me with wonder is Hebrews 4:16: Let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Do you see that? The open invitation? The God of all creation is inviting me—you, each of us—to step into the throne room of His presence.”
Additionally, she says “there’s no need for worry or fear in prayer. You don’t have to work at the words or say them just right.”

Inside Prayers for Each Moment
Ink & Willow published this 127-page book. The cover and inside graphics are soothing botanical prints in muted tones of orange, yellow, gray, black, and pink.
She offers a collection of prayers which she says isn’t “fancy or formal,” but honest conversations similar to the ones she’s had with God. Truly, there are prayers for just about every moment: “When I Feel Helpless,” “When a Prayer Isn’t Answered,” “When I am Tempted to Judge.” Also, “When It’s Thanksgiving,” “When I am Perfectly Content,” and “When I’m Incandescently Happy” just to name a few.
In addition to the 100 prayers, readers will also enjoy ten additional prayers to pray in community.
Each page begins with a scripture, followed by a prayer. Most of the scriptures are pulled from the NLT, but the ESV, NIV, and other versions are also appropriately incorporated.

“A Prayer for Boldness” by Tama Fortner
NOW IS NOT THE TIME to be silent or shy. We know that, God. Now is the time to be bold.
To take risks.
To stand up for those who cannot.
To speak out for those who have no voice.
But, God, we’re going to need Your help to do that. Because it’s risky and because we’re more than a little afraid of what we might lose. Please be with us in this.
Fill our hearts with Your courage and our resolve with Your strength.
Drench us in Your wisdom.
Flood our minds with Your thoughts and the words You would have us speak.
And cover us with Your hand of protection.
Let us be far less worried about what others might think and far more concerned about what matters to You. Please help us be bold for You.
Amen.
Recommendation & Giveaway
I highly recommend this book. The prayers are beautifully written from the heart. The author’s sincerity and love for the Lord is evident in every prayer. Many times, as I read through them I found myself saying This Lord—I pray this. Amen.
This is one of Fortner’s books written for adults. But teens will also benefit from it. In fact, I think many of the prayers will be helpful when families gather for reading the Bible or during nightly devotion times.
I hope the publisher will consider offering this book in a large print edition. It would be such a blessing for those who struggle reading smaller fonts.
Prayers for Each Moment would make a lovely gift for anyone who stands in need of prayer.
