Sally Matheny’s Professional Bio (Long):

With a Master’s degree in elementary education, Sally Matheny taught kindergarten and first grade in the public school system for nine years before homeschooling all grades for twenty-four years.

As children, when not chasing the library’s bookmobile, Sally and her sister packed their “writing” suitcases with supplies to spend their summer days writing and illustrating their own books.

Decades of learning the craft of writing passed before she sought traditional publication. She writes for Clubhouse Jr., Appleseeds, The Old Schoolhouse, Practical Homeschooling, Homeschooling Today, the Greenhouse Report, and other print and online publications.

Sally sharpens her writing skills through her blog, a critique group, and participation in writing conferences. She also serves on the leadership team for the Write2Ignite Conference.

In addition to blogging at SallyMatheny.com, she regularly answers the call from traditional publishers, publicists, and authors to post book reviews. She’s also a part of the Blog About Blogger Network via the Blythe Daniel Literary Agency. Sally is currently, or has been, a member of the writing organizations SCBWI, ACW, and NFAA. Her goal is to write excellent books worthy of publishers’ and readers’ time.

In addition to teaching in classrooms, Sally’s experience includes leading children in 4-H clubs, church groups, and day camps. One of her greatest pleasures has been working alongside the N.C. Museum of History facilitating an N.C. Junior Historian group for grades 4 – 12. Another highlight is teaching classes about the American home front during WWII to groups of homeschool students.

Sally speaks at women’s events, encouraging them to live victoriously and to courageously tell the next generation wondrous things. Gifted at holding the attention of multigenerational groups, she is also a sought-after speaker for Mother-Daughter events.

She and her husband live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. They have one son at home, two adult daughters, two sons-in-law, and armfuls of grandblessings.

Professional Bio (Short):

A freelance writer and blogger, Sally Matheny’s writing is published worldwide, nationally, regionally, online, and in print publications, including Appleseeds, Clubhouse Jr., Homeschooling Today, Practical Homeschooling, Keys for Kids, and The Old Schoolhouse. A former public-school teacher, Sally has homeschooled for twenty-four years. She’s a lifelong learner and is always taking a history or writing class of some sort. She loves to pass on what she learns by teaching history and creative writing classes to student groups.
