Sally Matheny’s Professional Bio (Long):

With a Master’s degree in elementary education, Sally Matheny taught kindergarten and first grade in the public school system for nine years before homeschooling all grades for twenty-four years.

As a child, when not chasing down the library’s bookmobile, Sally and her sister packed their “writing” suitcases and spent their summer days writing and illustrating their own books.

Decades of learning the writing craft passed before she sought traditional publication. She writes for Clubhouse Jr., Appleseeds, The Old Schoolhouse, Practical Homeschooling, Homeschooling Today, the Greenhouse Report, and other print and online publications.

Sally sharpens her writing skills through her blog, working with a critique group, and participating in one or more writing conferences a year. She also serves on the leadership team for the Write2Ignite Conference.

In addition to her own blog, www.SallyMatheny.com, she posts book reviews regularly for traditional publishers and the Blog About Blogger Network. Sally is currently, or has been, a member of the writing organizations SCBWI, ACW, and NFAA. Her goal is to write excellent books worthy of publishers’ and readers’ time.

[A wonderful publisher offered Sally a traditional publishing contract for her nonfiction picture book, T is for Together: An Introduction to the American Spirit of WWII. The publisher originally slated it for publication in the spring of 2025. However, due to world and financial issues, the publisher had to pull out of contracts, so Sally is currently seeking a new publishing house.]

In addition to teaching in classrooms, Sally’s experience includes leading children in 4-H clubs, various church groups, and day camps. One of her greatest pleasures has been working alongside the N.C. Museum of History facilitating an N.C. Junior Historian group for grades 4 – 12. Another highlight is teaching classes about the American home front to groups of homeschooled students.

In addition, Sally speaks at events for women, encouraging them to live victorious and to courageously tell the next generation wondrous things. Gifted at drawing the attention of multigenerational groups, she is also a sought-after speaker for Mother-Daughter Teas.

She and her husband live in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. They have one son at home, two adult daughters, two sons-in-law, and armfuls of grandblessings.
