When We Don’t Know Who to Believe

/ Comments Off on When We Don’t Know Who to Believe

Daily, we hear conflicting news from the media, from those in authority, as well as from family and friends. It's unsettling when we don’t know who to believe. That fear displays itself in various forms from tight-lipped agitation to fist-pounding anger, or just downright, gut-wrenching angst. While some messengers have hidden agendas, others are sincerely well-meaning. But, we’re not even sure if the well-meaning folks know all the facts. Is there anyone who really knows the truth? (excerpt from this week's post)

Go Virtual with Write2Ignite and Joyce M. Hostetter!

Go virtual with Write2Ignite and Joyce Hostetter! If you're unfamiliar with these two fabulous names, then please allow me to share a little about them with you. The first year I attended a Write2Ignite Conference (W2I) was in 2012. It was the first conference I’d attended which specifically catered to Christian writers of children’s and young adult literature. God used that experience to open multiple doors of blessings. One of those was the privilege of taking a writing class taught by the award-winning author, Joyce Moyer Hostetter. Her presentation: “Telling the Truth Through Fiction” and the resources she gave were . . .

How Do We Tell the Next Generation to Not Live in Fear?

/ Comments Off on How Do We Tell the Next Generation to Not Live in Fear?

Daily, we hear news of division, destruction, disease, and death. Our kids and grandkids hear some form of this as well. Whether it’s via television, the internet, friends, or family. Perhaps they are witnessing it firsthand in their communities, possibly in their own homes. It’s easy to become overwhelmed and discouraged. So, how do we tell the next generation to not live in fear? First, we, the parents, must learn and practice brave faith-living, so our encouragement is received as genuine. Then, we utilize the power of words . . .

Ben Franklin’s in My Bathroom! Book Review & Giveaway

If you know a third – fifth grader who isn’t crazy about reading or history, then introduce them to Ben Franklin’s in My Bathroom! This is one of those books that even slightly older students will enjoy. My son was in the eighth grade when this book was published. He wasn’t a big fan of reading, and like most kids, he didn’t like history unless it was presented in an interesting manner. A book titled: Ben Franklin’s in My Bathroom! definitely grabbed his attention. Check out the review and see if this book is one you'd like to win in the giveaway.

If You Choose Homeschooling: Step 3 – Commit

/ Comments Off on If You Choose Homeschooling: Step 3 – Commit

This is the last post in the series, 3 Steps to Take If You Choose Homeschooling: Step 3 - Commit. In the first post of this series, we addressed some of our fears. One fear we did not discuss was the fear of commitment. When parents are considering homeschooling, their first thoughts focus on their children's education. But, let’s be honest. At some point, whether they say it out loud or not, parents ask themselves: “If I choose to homeschool, what kind of commitment is involved?" Here are a few thoughts to encourage you...
